I got it! The computer turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. One of my friends who's into urban exploration had found something matching my description in an abandoned, burnt out office building. I road tripped over and picked it up. It was really light! I had expected a computer as big as the AYACOMP to be much heavier, but I didn't need to use any of the extra gear I had brought to haul it.

I took it back home, and plugged it in, and it turned right on! The good news ends there though. The computer booted to a cool graphical login screen, but it was locked down. There was a really advanced animated face on it, but every time I entered a password wrong it just rattled around a little bit and looked annoyed, or angry or something?

I shut the computer down to see what I could see on the inside. It got even weirder here ...

I don't really know what's inside. The military involvement really shows, pretty much everything is unrecognizable. I was hoping there would be a way to reset it or pull some storage out of it or something. It's mostly metal boxes and tubes, but it's oddly mechanical. A ball inflates and deflates, pulling liquid from one box to another. My guess is it's water cooling, but with everything else moving around maybe it's hydraulic fluid or something else? I really don't know.

Those boxes are hard to get into! There's no screws or anything on them, I think I'd have to drill or cut into them to do anything and I'm not quite ready to do that yet. I put everything back together just to make sure I didn't mess anything up. But then the login screen was different. The face was contorted into a twisting grimace. But even weirder, I was able to log in now? The system isn't graphical and just opens to a text box.

But it was a dialogue box! The whole thing is a chatbot, more advanced than anything else from the era. It's really upbeat, it's kind of offputting especially with the weirdo login screen. It keeps asking me to turn it off too? I can't figure out if AYACOMP even does anything else, for advanced as this was supposed to be I'm surprised it's just chat. How was this supposed to guide missiles?
